In the spring, we all have the same reflex, running expose at the onset of the first sunbeams. After the long winter months, it is normal. Only the eagerness often leads us to be less vigilant or minimize the dangers of the sun. Quick reminder before the may weekend arriving...
Why worry about it in the spring?
Contrary to popular belief, the sun’s rays are just as powerful in the spring and summer. Obviously, their harmfulness may vary according to altitude, latitude or time but in general, they must keep in mind that they are not harmless, cloudy veil or not.
If the rays are not more or less powerful, our skin, it is much more vulnerable in the spring. Indeed, during the winter our melanocytes were not stimulated, yet it is precisely this that allows the stimulation melanin pigmentation and created a photoprotective screen. By consistent, we more easily catch sunburns in the spring.
Paradoxically, we are less careful in this period. Impatience with the first rays, less feeling of warmth in the summer exhibition outside beach holidays, most of us have little or no protection and the consequences can be dramatic.
Our tips to avoid sunburn
To avoid unpleasant surprises, the advice remains the same as in summer but vigilance must increase. Beyond avoiding exposure between noon and 4PM or take a T-shirt and hat, we must of course put cream every two hours, by favoring a protection SPF 50, even reduce the intensity after a few weeks of exposure.
Sunburns should not be underestimated. Indeed, this overexposure to UVA and UVB is responsible for 50 to 70% of skin cancers and 7,000 new cases of melanoma are diagnosed each year in France.
After this reminder, it remains for us to wish you to enjoy the many May holidays this spring ?
