The lips are your smile, your expression, your emotions. They are also fragile and highly solicited during the day. Temperature swings, bacteria, the sun, saliva, or contact with not always clean hands are the biggest challenges. Here is our advice to take care of your lips, and display the prettiest of mouths.
Damaged Lips: The Things to Avoid
The types of external stress that make the lips sensitive are numerous. Their impact is all the stronger as the skin of the area is very thin and thus particularly sensitive.
The lips are also devoid of sebaceous and sweat glands, the glands that produce sebum and sweat, which provide natural moisturizing of the skin. To this you can add bad reflexes, like licking your lips with highly-acidic saliva, touching them with your fingers, or smoking.
When the lips are dry, we tend to wet them slightly with saliva, which helps relieve the discomfort for a few seconds. But it makes the tingling worse afterward and generates chapping.
Finally, smoking acts on premature aging of the skin, but also its drying.
Daily Care of the Lips
Like the rest of the body, the lips need to be hydrated from the inside. So it is important to drink enough water throughout the day (1.5 to 2L).
The lips can also be perfectly cleaned and make-up removed just like the rest of the face. To do so, pick a make-up removal oil that will remove leftover lipstick or oily particles of pollution. It also has the benefit of leaving a moisturizing and protective finish on the lips.
And if the lips are still tingling, it is better to get a lip balm with a natural, Organic formula. The most sensitive will also need daily sun protection because UV light exacerbates sensitivity.
At Laboratoires de Biarritz, our certified Organic Ocean and Mountain Lip Balm boasts a sun protection factor of 30. It is free of added fragrances, hypoallergenic, rich in Organic castor and jojoba oil to moisturize, and protective Organic beeswax.
For those that like to do sports and need both moisturizing and water- and sweat-resistance, nothing is better than our special Sport SPF30 Lip Balm. It was designed in collaboration with professional surfers to guarantee staying power and high resistance to the water, salt, and wind.
