The holiday spirit, falling snow, and beautiful wintery lights make your kid's eyes sparkle. So that they can enjoy it safely, protecting your baby from the cold, a well-known cause of skin damage and irritation, is crucial. Here are a few tips to keep your baby's skin safe in the winter!
Step 1: Keep your baby’s skin moisturized
As it is still developing, infant skin is fragile: it reddens and dries out quickly. The skin barrier, the outermost layer of the skin, is not yet fully formed. The acid mantle shielding it is vulnerable and the reason your baby’s skin reacts more strongly when exposed to external stress like cold temperatures or the dry air in your house. Dry skin and irritation around the mouth are the signs you need to be watchful of if you want to prevent discomfort, itchiness, and pain.
If you maintain an optimal moisturizing routine, you can keep your baby’s skin ready to face the winter. After bathtime, apply our Body Moisturizing Cream on its body and face. Its 100% natural formula is streamlined and minimalistic, only providing the essentials your little cutie actually needs. Our exclusive Alga-Paisium strengthens the skin and prevents drying. You can also apply it during the day on your baby’s face before going out into the cold.
Step 2: Bathtime, Optimized
Although it is necessary to keep your baby healthy, bathing must be adjusted to its fragile skin – and the season. Warm water and cleansing products can alter an infant’s thin acid mantle. To help maintain the balance between hygiene and safe skin, bathe your baby once every two to three days. Reduce the impact of the water on your baby’s skin by keeping it short and using water under 36°C.
Wash your baby delicately and gently with our Baby & Child Enriched Cleansing Gel to prevent its drying and doesn’t sting the eyes!
Step 3: Keep an eye on the humidity in the baby’s environment
In the winter, one of the reasons your skin dries out is the dry air indoors caused by heating. Cooler air means higher humidity. And that’s a good reason, for your baby and our planet, to set the thermostat in your child’s room at 19°C. If the air is still too dry, install a little humidifier. It will reduce skin drying and can help improve some respiratory conditions.
Step 4: Dress your baby for the winter
Like a little cabbage, dressing your baby in the winter is all about the layering up. Use several layers of light clothes instead of a single thick one. Start with a bodysuit, then a cotton t-shirt, tights or leggings, a little sweater, and finish with a wool or fleece jacket. And of course, don’t forget the beanie and little scarf to complete the swaddling up your little cutie!
