As you know, the algae are at the heart of our active ingredient, Alga-Gorria®. Molecules with potent antioxidant, rich in trace elements and minerals or essential amino acid salts, they reveal a potential research after research uncommon. The opportunity for us to take stock of a few areas where they are used as raw material.
Whether red or brown algae have long been used in several areas, starting with food. Indeed, Rhodophyceae (Red Seaweed) which are based on research Laboratoires de Biarritz, are well known for their gelling properties found in the food additive called agar.
The gelling properties of algae, it is also what has allowed the development of “Ohoo” that could help eliminate plastic bottles oceans. The principle is simple, it comes to packing sips of water in an edible membrane. Designed by three students, including two French, “Ohoo” could quickly be distributed at events such as marathons, before any health checks for distribution on a larger scale…
Working out of oil to develop more environmentally friendly products? It is also what drives Breton company Algo Pack who managed to design a 100% biodegradable plastic made from seaweed. Beyond its manufacturing method has a very low impact on the planet, the innovation of this bioplastic is its rate of decomposition, which may in some cases be reduced to just a few hours! Signage panels, toys, touch pads these bioplastics are intended for many uses; the company has even participated in the creation of filaments used in 3D printers.
Known to man since the dawn of time, algae now seem to be a renewed interest by entrepreneurs committed to the environment. French often, these findings demonstrate the quality of research and hexagonal, regarding Laboratoires de Biarritz, encourage us daily in the project of ours;-)
